Longtime local radio personality Pete Cloutier, center, gets in a cheer with the Glens Falls Greenjackets during a team practice last year at Chase Sports Complex in South Glens Falls. Cloutier suited up for a game with the Greenjackets last year when he was 78. Earlier this week, he received notification from the Guinness Book of World Records that he had set a record as the oldest player to play in an American semipro football game.
Of course, Pete Cloutier was nervous when Dan Miner and Hank Pelton hatched a plan for a promotional stunt to publicize Adirondack Operation Santa Claus last summer.
The idea was to have Cloutier, at age 78, suit up for a Glens Falls Greenjackets football game — full uniform and everything — and let him run a play as the world’s oldest semipro football player.
Turned out, it was an actual world record.
